A Storm of Swords 1: Steel and Snow by @gantagebookreviews
Winter is certainly coming into the world of Westeros: Jon Snow starts this book in a ranging over the before meeting the first love of his life Ygritte “You know nothing” Freewoman; Theon “I’m a twat” Greyjoy is an even bigger twat but gets his first taste of real twat when he meetings the Bastard of Bolton; Bran is still being a moody little bitch searching for the three eyed raven with probably the best not main point of view character in the novel (Meera) doing her thang; Robb Stark has won some decent battles but decides to dick over everyone by marrying a bird he wasn’t supposed; Catelyn releases Jaime Stark who almost falls in love with Brienne (the actual best non-POV character); Arya who is almost a bad bitch but not quite there yet is almost saved three times and ends up as close to home as she’ll be for three more books; Sansa - reading some of Sansa’s stuff is like watching paint dry - gets married off by the Lannisters.
It’s all very convoluted and if you don’t read it quickly you get lost in the mire. I need to find some kind of map that tracks where the characters are at some points because I swear to god it can take one character a whole book to move across a town.
I forgot Daenerys. My god try spelling her name without looking it up. She’s got three dragons now and they are causing HAVOC.
The book starts with what the characters were doing during the final battle of book. Every little thing is important which is why I have to drag myself through another Sansa chapter. In fact, hers are probably the most important because they’re full of so much intrigue - she builds a great relationship with the Queen of Thorns that needs to be explored further.
I’m glad I don’t have to wait long to read the next one because I think I’d be lost.
So many sub plots and main plots.
Overall: needs less bitching Sansa and more bad man Brienne of Tarth.
5/5
