“Mrs. Leafhalter wasn’t vicious, she was a single woman living her life, the way Adina is. If she’d understood sooner maybe she’d have made better decisions at key moments and wouldn’t be missing her and everyone she’s ever met, even the terrible ones who ripped important things from her like wire from a wall.”
I saw this book in a bookstore months ago and knew. Knew I needed it and it would do something for me. It was a much happier time then!! Finished on the plane ride home weeks ago but when I landed Donald Trump was the president again so I was busy and didn’t write a review. This book was agony. It is the book I’ve been looking to read my entire life. I was planning to leave a list of the pieces that made me more emotional than the rest, but I think it would be too long. Every sentence felt poignant and almost confounding to read so many of my own inner reflections written by another person. Lately all life seems for everyone I know is loneliness and isolation and confusion. I’m not certain if this helped or made it worse. I’m not sure what to do.
