An adventurous tale of familial obligation, murder, ghosts, and romance. Deshi, a young man living in rural China, must find a bride for his deceased brother so that he may be happy in the afterlife. When his plan to dig up a fresh corpse goes awry, Deshi turns to a shady man to help him find and kill a young woman to be buried with his dead brother. What follows is a cross-country journey, rife with strange encounters. The bright, vivid watercolor illustrations were enjoyable to look at, and Novgorodoff expertly uses them to perpetuate the story rather than relying heavily on dialogue. A fun, exciting tale to immerse oneself in for a spell.
