What did I just read?! I don't know much about the Fanstastic Four's history so I couldn't determine how much it deviated, if any. It's interesting to put superheroes in historical context especially if it didn't go well. I also appreciate giving spotlight to Sur and her abilities not just as a mother. Plotting the family's history throughout the decades, how it shaped them and the world, and how time caught up with them is very emotional. Love and hope transcended time and this family's humanity is truly shows what's the best of us can accomplish. There will always be faults and shortcomings but if we just pause and look around us we will just be alright.
Mark Russell was able to deliver in those emotional beats and climaxes; beautiful art by Sean Izaakse with assists from good artists; fantastic colors by Nolan Woodard especially in 80s and the muted colors during Ben's Korea War backstory; and Joe Caramagna made sure the words would make their impact. Daniel Acuña's covers are magnificent.
