To Kiss a Thief by Susanna Craig

2.0

Great writing, just could not get on board with the rest of this book. 2 stars.

I'm writing this like a week later so clearly not got the greatest memories of names from this one, but just skimming through the synopsis and the book now, oooh it's all coming back to me now! Ok, so this one is about a woman who is forced to exile herself to a small village because she's wrongly accused of stealing her husband's family jewels and is caught in a compromising position at a ball. Her husband finds this letter and realises she's not dead, as everyone seems to think, and goes to get her back? I'm not too sure, the premise is pretty flimsy. It feels like a really immature move on his part to uproot his life to go after a woman who's already ruined and exiled, just to take his revenge?

I loved that it was slightly unconventional, I don't think it's a spoiler to talk about the fact that the main protagonist has a daughter, and this really adds to her relationship with her estranged husband, and made for some of the best moments in the novel. But honestly, I just really didn't like the main male lead, and his own position doesn't make him blameless for the shambles their marriage was at the beginning, being all cold and aloof from the start. I really didn't like him.

Honestly, the 2, pushing to 2.5 stars is mostly because the writing was pretty dang great and I liked the female lead, it's a shame about the romance and the guy.
