Once again, a YA book that has more going for it than many an A book. The story deftly weaves back and forth between today and WW II Holland telling both a tense, gripping war story and a family mystery. While aspects of the mystery's answer could be seen a mile away, the details were suprising, well told, and packed an emotional wallop at the end. The mixed reactions/conclusions of the characters is a plus in the book. The author avoids a happy clappy ending. One sign, to me, of a good book is one that makes me want to read more on the topic or by the author. I ended this wanting to read more about the Dutch resistance and the near-starvation life in occupied Holland.
