Paradise Valley: A Highway Novel by C.J. Box

5.0

This was a fitting end to the Highway Quartet, but hopefully not the last we see of Cassie Dewell. Starting off with a fake suicide bombing and ending with another kind of explosion, there was a nice symmetry there.

I also liked how Kyle and his quick thinking played more of a central role in this story. It almost didn’t Cassie in the plot except for the fact the resolution would’ve been more messy without her and the fact it felt more poetic to have her delivering the coup de grace. Aside from that, I believe the story would’ve played out yet same if she hadn’t even gotten involved.

As always The Lizard King was a great villain—depraved and ruthless in all the right spots. His intelligence and planning made for another thrilling game of cat and mouse with the posse charged to stop him.
