Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

I finally (2 years later) reread the series so I could read Tower of Dawn and Kingdom of Ash and I'm really glad I did this reread. I was also so surprised how much I loved Tower of Dawn, and didn't view it as a frustrating break from Aelin and Co. Maas kept the the reveals coming, especially the big one at the end which blew my mind, and I loved most of the new characters, as well as how it tied back to the novellas.
I especially love that Maas continues to explore themes of broken characters and what it takes to heal yourself - not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. Chaol is incredibly frustrating at times and seems to regress, but I really enjoy the way Maas has characters grow (and regress) and how she has self-acceptance, especially the dark parts, as a crucial and inescapable aspect of healing.
