The Killing Game by Iris Johansen

4.0

We visit the second in the Eve Duncan mystery series written by former romance novelist Iris Johansen. There are changes a plenty in Eve's life, from meeting a little girl as tough as Eve was herself to Joe changing his relationship from simply best friend to romantic interest.

Iris hasn't turned her back on her roots as she moves to mystery and mainstream suspense, thank heavens. I'm new to this series, but not to the author. I've read her since her early Loveswept days and thought she and Kay Hooper, another who is moving into the romantic suspense market, were some of the best.

The similarity of the subplot (on the run from the authorities while trying to catch a killer) in both the first and second book in the Duncan series does bother me. I hope it isn't a recurring theme. It will be interesting to see if Iris can continue to keep my interest. I have no doubts about her talent, but a mystery series is a difficult job to maintain. The forensic sculptor aspect is an exciting part ready for today's CSI-focused audience.
