I liked the way that even the telling of this story was reminiscent of a fairy tale. I think I was surprised at the very beginning by the perceived tone shift from other of Kingfisher’s work, but as I read on it felt not too dissimilar in level of fantasy than the Saints of Steel series (of which I have only read two books so far and have enjoyed!). It didn’t grab me in right when I started reading, which is probably why the rating is a little lower than my usual for Kingfisher’s work. I did love Bonedog and Fenris so much though <3
