This concept could have been IT! But it wasn’t. The characters really bloom in the end but the beginning is slow and a bit confusing. The nonlinear timeline makes for a surprising ending, which is fun but makes the ending feel sudden. I wonder if this would have been more successful with first person narration? Overall I was confused with the tones and timelines shifting. The ending was really sweet though and buttoned up nicely.  I did listen to the audiobook and that should be factored in as well.
