The Expected One
by Kathleen McGowan
This was a very interesting read if you love fiction about Jesus and Mary Magdeline. You could tell that the author spent 20 years working on the book. It was well written and well researched. She really seemed to know her stuff. My mom LOVED this book and read the other 2 books that came after. I was in school and after waiting and waiting for the second book to come out (I had read an advance copy), I completely forgot what happened and felt that I needed to reread before I could move on to the others. Needless to say, it never happened. (Maybe one day it will.) I handsold A LOT of these at the bookstore I work at for a while after I read it and still continue to sell a few based off my recommendation. It was especially easy after the Da Vinci Code became so popular. The only thing that I can't decide how I feel about is the idea that the author placed herself in the book as protagonist and wrote as if the story was loosely based on her true family history. I don't know how I feel about that just yet. Curious what others think..
*Note* I just want to add that another thing I enjoyed about this novel was that it was not overtly religious and you don't have to be Christian to read it. Of course, some religious history background is good to know but I think the author sets up the story pretty well where its not necessary to know so much.
