The Final Strife by Saara El-Arifi
2.0
So El-Arifi's book was a mixed lot for me. I loved the world she built with its vibrant descriptions of the city, its people, and the basic concepts (as much as you can love a brutal culture that maims people based on their blood color).
The only real downside was that I couldn't connect with Sylah. Our time spent with Hassa was more engaging to me as I could relate to her motivations and character so much more. Unfortunately, it meant that I couldn't enjoy the book as much as I wanted as I felt like I was pushing through with the main character to interact with others.
I'm looking forward to seeing what else El-Arifi brings and will gladly try another of her stories.
