The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo
4.0
The book was really lovely. The only thing that bothered me were the never-ending descriptions which took more than half of the book. But God, this was a funky ride. The plot twists were really cool for such an old book, although I saw that thing with Esmeralda coming from miles and miles.
All the characters were special in their own way, but it still felt that the smartest one there was the goat - she stuck with Gringoire, who by the time I finished the book seemed like a cockroach (it looks like he can survive anything) and could do some many cute tricks. And yes I am probably talking about my most favourite character here :D

The character I probably cared most about was good old (well, actually he's twenty so not so old) Quasimodo. Although he looked terrifying he was such a good guy. Yes, I know he killed like thousands or so of people, but that was only to protect the things he loved. He was never selfish and always so loyal.
As a kid who grew up on the Disney movie (and weirdly I don't feel ashamed for that) I always saw Klaudius as pure evil, but now I see that the movie completely ruined his character. He is someone smart and special with hinger for knowledge. The only thing faulty about him is his wrong conception of love. And that was getting really annoying.

Still when I got to the movie version finally, there's just this one question that screams in my head: How the hell did they put all this into a movie? And also there is a couple of others like: How did they manage to make it all so wrong or why even? never mind, this is something I really don't want to get into.
The best thing about the book was definitely the ending. I was really on the edge of crying there for a while. THIS IS HOW YOU END A BOOK! I was waiting for some book with a epic ending for a while now.
