duparker 's review for:
Visions of Cody
by Jack Kerouac
This is a hard read, if you can call what you do reading this book. It is a real chore to pick this up and complete it. At best it is challenging, at worst, boring. It is very complex, oddly dreamlike, non-linear and at times entertaining. I read it to be complete and to see how the alternative version of On The Road was formed. It is really a book that those with a love of Kerouac's world, or those interested in literary devices should read.
Page by page you struggle to understand what you are reading and to challenge yourself to follow the story, where there is one. I completed it, not because it was interesting and went someplace, but because I kept finding nuggets of familiarity in the writing, from On The Road and a few other stories and texts.
Not one I'll read again, and not one I regret reading.
