Another Australia is a deep and difficult read that shines a light on the darker aspects of Australian culture and history. It is a collection of raw stories from First Nations and culturally diverse people, predominantly dealing with topics of discrimination and racism. These kinds of books are so important and it challenged me, as a white Australian, to think about issues that I have never personally experienced, and the privilege I hold. I found The Innocence Project by Sisonke Msimang particularly moving. I also adored the fact that this book included poetry by Nardi Simpson written in Yuwaalaraay language. I love the Stiff Gins and seeing that kind of representation is so rare. I would highly recommend this book, especially to white Australians, or anybody wanting to learn more about issues of racism and discrimination in Australian history and culture.
