The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
4.0
I know that this is a classic, but I was nervous that a fantasy novel written by an author born in the 19th century would be a difficult read. Boy was I wrong! Tolkien’s language is very accessible, and his world is both engulfing and charming. I had few issues, other than some overly explained exposition and too many songs for my liking, this was a near-perfect novel!
I’m sure this deserved a 10, but I’m feeling a 9. (Wish the rating system was more nuanced. )
