The Girl from the Metropol Hotel: Growing Up in Communist Russia
by Ludmilla Petrushevskaya
adventurous
medium-paced
To be honest, I was hoping this book would give me a better idea of how life was in the USSR more generally. I suppose with the shortness of the book I shouldn’t have expected much, but it’s just a description of the author’s childhood without much examination of its relation to bigger ideas.
Graphic: Body shaming, Bullying, Child abuse, Death, Misogyny, Physical abuse, Forced institutionalization, Classism, Deportation
Moderate: Rape, Sexual assault, Violence, Stalking, Sexual harassment, War
