The Justice of Kings by Richard Swan

4.5

"It is amazing how fragile even great institutions of state can be; how quickly the world order can descend into chaos"

"The law is the law; the day we abandon it for the sake of bloodshed is the day we abandon ourselves"

Wow...what a book...what a start to a series.
We follow Justice Konrad Vonvalt as he is upholding the law throughout the empire. This is done with use of fear of his position, certain arcane arts, and martial skill. The story is told from the perspective of 19 year old Helena Sedanka, the justice's clerk. There is a lot of character development from Helena as well as other characters as a result of certain events in the book.
This is definitely a series that has been on my radar for a while and as always I should have read it ages ago.
