A Heart Worth Healing by Cara Devlin

A sweet western historical with a Dr. Quinn feel.

This one is a bit mis-marketed, it is not a historical romance, do not go into this thinking this is a book focussed on a love story. This is historical fiction about a woman doctor travelling to Colorado to regroup after a devastating scandal. This is a good story about a woman overcoming a lot of society biases as well as coming to terms with her own mistakes and behaviour.
There is a small side interest with the town’s former sheriff Jack, but that is not the focus of this story.
Once I figured out that this is book one of three in a series with the same protagonist, I leaned back and enjoyed its slower pace. Ellie has a lot of learning and growing to do, friends to make and enemies to deal with. The ending is not a cliff hanger but it’s a happy for now as Ellie has a lot more work to do to be accepted and it definitely has a serial feeling with the obvious intention of leading you into the next book. With a very light, Sunday family movie vibe; this is no a deep dive historical or gritty western.
Overall it was an entertaining read and I will be continuing with the series.
