The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

The message was amazing and very relevant to American society today, got me feeling emotional more than once throughout the story. I can't believe this stuff actually happens so much in the US... definitely makes me glad to be in Canada (although we're far from perfect as well).
Oh and also, there was also something about the book that made it pretty quick to read + the characters were likeable + this was funny.

However, I must admit that I didn't always feel like reading it, it kinda felt long at times (I think it could've been shorter tbh) and took me a long time to get into it... Or rather, one moment I was really into it, then I wasn't, and it kept alternating that way. Maybe because it's not my typical type of story; I prefer action and fun to emotional, realistic stuff. I didn't like it enough that I absolutely need it on my bookshelf.

BUT, just like Wonder and The Handmaid's Tale, I think the message is incredibly important and needs to be heard/read. Very powerful.
