A stone-cold classic of American literature for good reason. The text offers so much for the reader to unpack: explorations on the effects of individual and societal racism on personal identity; rich symbolism and metaphor; surrealist passages that feel almost dreamlike; and a fascinating cast of characters around which the book’s themes are built. I am going to think about this book for a long time.
