When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill

The writing and social commentary was absolutely stunning and I fell in love that aspect of the book. There are so many incredible, thought provoking quotes that I cannot get outta my head and I thought about giving this a 5 star for that reason. But, I find that if I don't care about anything else in the book like the characters or plot, then I simply can't give it a full five stars. Despite the beauty of it, I found myself not really wanting to pick it back up. I had little to no interest in what was actually going on and found myself getting disappointed of having the promise of rage-filled oppressed women turned to dragons, yet looking through the scope of a girl who keeps her eyes down. It aided the commentary this book was making, so I think it's simply a way that the book was marketed to me that led to the disappointment, but still.
