Laidlaw by William McIlvanney

dark slow-paced

My hubby liked it a lot more than I did.  It wasn't so much a mystery as a 280 page character development piece,  and I didn't much like the character.   It does a good job of creating a sense of place, but the
plot is glacial, and you have to slog along until the last dozen pages or so to have anything happen.  It just wasn't for me.
