Friends-to-lovers done right
I am a huge fan of brother’s best friend romances and Whitney G. Friends to lovers isn’t always my jam, but this one is so great—I couldn’t get enough of Penelope and Hayden. The banter is fun and the beginning of the friendship has some enemies to lovers vibes, which I love. The story itself is told in alternating present and the past via Penelope’s breakups. I loved to see Hayden doling out advice in the past while also being incredibly supportive of Penelope. Penelope has always had bad luck with men, but the one man she can always count on is Hayden. They have such a close relationship and I loved to see how devoted both of them were to the friendship. Hayden definitely comes off as a grumpy asshole, but he does have a super sweet side—especially when it comes to Penelope.
