This was a really cute Aussie read! The friendship between the two main characters was such a great representation. I also felt the characters were complex despite being a light read and the book still managed to touch on some important topics such as the LGBTQ space and recent history. I did feel like the summary does not represent the book though, and the plot was much more mystery, escape room - eque.
I loved the friendship and bond that was formed between Genn and Oliver. I felt that the juxtaposition of their perspectives paired with a very co-indepentant bond was really lovely to read and was very authentic. I also loved that the romance was not formed between them or Ella. I thought the romance that did form between Oliver and Fionn was so much stronger and genuine and made this such a great read.
I also loved the mystery behind the house and that I found myself wanting to know the whole book how they were trapped there and how to break the curse. I liked that it was Ella's perspective that helped them get out, and that it was an honest representation of how people that are too close to a situation can easily lack perspective.
I did love the use of The Magic as well, and it totally gave me ACOSF vibes, with the house having a conscience.
