The Plant-Based Athlete: The Game-Changing Secret Revolutionizing How the World's Top Competitors Perform by Robert Cheeke, Matt Frazier

3.0

I'm 80/20 herbivore-carnivore, and this book gives me hope for making that last leap to becoming 100% vegan. I'm not sure who the target audience is for this tome, as there's some dense primary sources with nutrient basics. For me, the most useful content was the vegan recipes at the end, paired with science-backed nutrient suggestions (such as eating a green, bean, and grain for every meal and using tart cherry juice for recovery) and snapshots of athletes' typical workout and diet regimes. Most of this research can be found online, but it was still a good reminder that I can still be an endurance runner without animal products, sticking to a suggested 60% carbs, 20% fats, and 20% protein, and that even watermelon has protein!
