This book was very fun to read. I liked that it continued from where we left off from the first book, and I liked all of the interactions with the characters. The Wind Master (Shi Qingxuan) is iconic, and I love them. The whole character arc of Lang Qianqiu was such a rollercoaster, but an entertaining one (everything is becoming so interwoven with each other that it is almost mind-boggling). I liked the Ghost City arc, especially the gambling scene. This book also did a good job at making you feel so emotionally tormented (the burning of Paradise Manor, Lang Qianqiu's loss of innocence, Xie Lian's mother (that particularly fucked me up) ). I was surprised (though also happy) to see more of Mu Qing and Feng Xin, though I hope we'll see Fu Yao and Nan Feng again. The continued bond of Hua Cheng and Xie Lian is amazing, and its continued and persistent presence in this book is why I enjoyed this one so much. At the end of this book, a new arc has started, a flashback to when Xie Lian was crown prince. I am not the biggest fan of flashbacks because it messes up the pacing and I am so invested in the present storyline that I want to continue reading that as soon as possible, though I do know that these flashback arcs contain valuable information and context, and I am interested. I think that the way the present timeline was written in a way that provided appropriate context effectively, though. The chapters are shorter and easier to get through, and the content is interesting in and of itself, so I am sure I will enjoy it going forward. So much has already happened, and there's still so much to go. This is a very intricate series that, at this time, I perceive myself being able to easily recommend to others.
