Fortunately, the Milk
by Neil Gaiman
I've been very slow to the Neil Gaiman party. He writes fantastic adult books. But I've now discovered he has written brilliant children's books. Is there anything he cannot do?
Fortunately, the Milk is a story about a dad who needs to look after his two kids, while his wife is away, and immediately they run out of milk. As a dad, I can relate to this. He heads out to get the milk and takes a really long to come back. His kids are not happy with this and demand an explanation on why he took so long.
I don't want to ruin the story, but the explanation involves aliens, pirates, time-traveling dinosaurs, and Wumpries to name a few. The story is a lighthearted, fun adventure with brilliant illustrations by Chris Riddle. My boys loved this story and I see us reading it a few times.
