The Lost Sisters by Holly Black

5.0

I think the writing style of this novella was such a smart choice! Writing it like a fairy-tale (with some absolutely beautiful quotes, I may add) not only reminds the reader that, no matter what they do or how hard they try, Jude and Taryn will always be different from the rest of Faerie. It also shows the difference between the two sisters. Jude is harsh, hardened, daring; Taryn is soft, warming, shy. I also loved how personal it was. It was really interesting to see into Taryn's softer perspective as opposed to Jude's hardened point of view, and her style of narrating that we got used to in the first novel. This novella helped to understand Taryn's motives a bit more, but it still serviced to only emphasise and develop how the two twins are the antithesis of each other and how, despite what lessons they are taught and learn, they are fundamentally two different souls. It is an amazingly complex idea that is done is such a great and effective way.
