Conspiracy in Death by J.D. Robb
5.0
It's been such a long time since I had cried over a book but there ... There are some passages which just broke my heart.
Lieutenant Eve Dallas thought she was dealing with a trivial case or almost: a sleeper that was killed in the street. Nothing strange so far but when she discovers that his heart was taken away with an unusual address, that other similar cases have been treated or rather botched and that nobody seems to care, Eve decides to stand for the dead ... Even if it means losing her police badge.
The case was certainly interesting (although moderately surprising ) but it's not what makes this book so AWESOME !!
These are the feelings, the pure emotions that the author depicts with such a great accuracy. We hate Bowers with the energy of a supernova but mostly we hate her for what she does to Eve. Seeing Eve lost her badge and break under our eyes ... I don't cry easily over all the books I read but this was really too hard.
This passage is one of the most beautiful ones I've read so far and it's also one of the hardest since the beginning of the series. I liked seeing her friends mobilizing for her (including Nadine and her interview of all the people for whom Eve fought and Roarke of course). This shows how the character of Eve has evolved throughout the books while keeping the mixture of strength and weakness that makes her so very endearing .
A MUST READ AND WITHOUT MODERATION !!
PS: I totally loved the scene of snowmen, it was just so cute ><
