These Witches Don't Burn by Isabel Sterling
4.0

This is more of a 3.5/3.75 stars for me but I'm bumping it slightly because damn if it wasn't a fun read! This book is the teenage supernatural flick every wlw wanted to have.
I'm normally not one for 1st person POV because a lot of authors use it as a subtitute for actually giving their MC a personality, but Sterling actually manages to develop an actual authentic voice for Hannah and not just have her be a nondescript mouthpiece through which the author tells their story. I think the most pleasurable part about being in Hannah's head is that she's not the most reliable narrator. She has her judgemental times, she projects the fear inside her, that's a result of a traumatic encounter that happened before our story starts, into unfair anger at people around her. Her relationship with Veronica, her ex, is every bit as complex and painful as you'd expect an intense first love and relationship with a childhood friend, who also shares your secret, to be.
A very good blend of teenage drama and supernatural action, this is everything the CW has tried to make in the past 5 years and abysmally failed. I'm definitely keeping my eyes out for the sequel.
