This is my second Daniel J. Volpe read, and if i’m honest, I found this rather disappointing.
I was really looking forward to picking this up, as the premise sounded really interesting and I enjoyed Plastic Monsters by him, but this just didn’t hit how I wanted. The gore scenes were definitely disgusting and disturbing, so props to the author for that, but I felt like at times this came across more as a misogynistic piece of torture p0rn rather than a critique on the industry. I think this story would have been a lot better had it been written by a female author, who may have handled the topic with a bit more decorum.
If you want a book that’s going to make you feel gross, sure i’d say read this, but don’t expect anything more than that.
