I'm well aware that these books are quite unpopular for justifiable reasons, BUT.
Yes, this is not for everyone, yes, there are some very, very, questionable elements, but you can't argue that the writing shines through all that. Andre Aciman delivers some of the most gut wrenching lines like it won't ruin your day, and that's incredible to me.
I read cmbyn 6 years ago, and I didn't enjoy it that much, but looking back I was just too young to appreciate the writing by itself, regardless to the story being told. The film also helped, since the last minutes invoked such emotion with just a character looking into a fire(props to timothee chalamet because that level of emotion so easily was crazy).
It's the beginning of the year, and I like to start with short books, and this was a good choice for that.
If you enjoy good writing, or just want some really good lines that will put you in an existential crisis, try it out.
