The Perfect Fit
by Sadie Kincaid
3.25/5⭐️ (just finished and might adjust later )
5/5🌶️ (very explicit and plentiful, kinky, mostly dom/sub, CNC, choking, spanking, degradation, and pain with one primal play scene)
I’m pretty sure I put this book into my TBR because I was promised a good grovel (or maybe a FMC who wouldn’t easily forgive or both). It somewhat delivered on both.
I think this novel, like many that I read, is hindered by how much smut is in it. Like I’m not one to complain about smut or shame, but I do think that there was a lot of potential that just kinda got sidelined for the spice. I think more of the novel could’ve been used to focus on the emotional side of the dom/sub dynamics, esp the responsibilities of a dom to care for the emotional well-being of their sub(s) and the communication necessary before CNC.
I know that’s not like the sexy side of the D/S dynamic, but man it felt pretty shitty to like only mildly allude to the prior abuse experienced by the FMC (and one MMC) and its impact on her reactions to the kinky sex.
Also Lily’s trauma is basically just left wholly unaddressed and as a hand waved explanation for her willingness to be kinky and never once does she use her safe word. Like she doesn’t ever get triggered enough to use it, but idk I feel like she should’ve? Or that there should’ve been more explicit guidance from the doms to work through the subspace? Or any acknowledgment of the subspace at all?? Another book I read not that long ago has a dom who guided the FMC through the subspace in a simple scene of crawling and that scene felt more emotionally raw and vulnerable than any in this book.
Basically, all that to say I really wirh there was more emotional depth and care from all the MCs.
What I did like was:
-the initial flirting from West, i think that was well written
-the pre established MMM relationship bringing in the FMC
-the angst around the MMCs
-the potential behind the plot of the fmc’s true identity and
What I didn’t like:
-lack of communication outside of the
-lack of exploration of the emotional vulnerability needed to engage in kink and the discussions needed to be had
-
-the wasted potential of the subplot of the FMC’s identity
-the FMC having 0 trouble fitting all their kinks. Like I get the title is called perfect fit but cmon, some work to get to that perfect fit would’ve been so rewarding
