Relish: My Life in the Kitchen by Lucy Knisley

Did not finish book. Stopped at 24%.
Putting a frame of a bunch of fat people with the text “Most of us seem to have problems with moderation” was not only incredibly fatphobic but entirely unwarranted and misinformed. Obesity is exacerbated by diet, but this makes it seem like fat people exist because of how much food they eat and what they eat when often times, these decisions are out of the person’s control (i.e. food deserts, accessibility, dietary restrictions due to allergies, money, etc). Additionally, this is a nuanced conversation that can’t be simply summarized by “moderation.” This was really unfortunate to see in a graphic memoir all about the appreciation of food and cooking, especially when the author has entire sections of this subject (weight loss/weight gain) in their latter graphic memoirs. I’m so disappointed to see this. I really wish this hadn’t been included, and I’m really turned off from future releases because of this.
