It took a while to get into this book. It reads quite a lot like 'A Series of Unfortunate Events', as in the writing style is quite similar. The writing style was a little bit choppy, but once used to it it was fine. I fell like there was room for a few of the characters to be developed more, and all the adults Soria's blended together. I loved the dynamics between the characters and how family relationships were explored. I enjoyed seeing Beatrix and he father interact.  Also the ending was perfection. Although I didn't love how so many characters where fighting for the spotlight, and within the last 50-100 pages, we got a true main character. I'm all for having multiple POV's but it was very choppy and there were so many characters.  Overall, this was a fun book, with an interesting magic system, that explores the importance of family and love.
