Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

A nice, quick read. It has it's flaws, but it keep me turning the pages. In the end, I found that the flaws were forgivable, simply because of the enjoyable experience reading the book was.

So what are the flaws? Characterization fell a little flat for me. It's not that I didn't like Yelana, I really did.. But I didn't feel for her as much as I felt I should have. Friendships between her and other characters sometimes felt forced, as did the relationship with her love interest. But like I said, despite that all, I still really enjoyed this read.

This is technically considered YA, but I actually wouldn't have known that if someone hadn't pointed it out to me. To me, it just seemed like a nice quick fantasy read, refreshing amidst all of the bricks out there.

I own the next two books in the series, and while I wasn't planning on continuing right away when I first started this, I've since decided that I will. I'm hoping they turn out to be just as enjoyable as this volume.
