A Day of Fallen Night
by Samantha Shannon
This was good. I kind of miss the plodding journeying you see in other large fantasy tomes, and some parts did not feel like they had been smoothed out yet—overall, it did not feel as convicting as the first. However, dealing with the joys and fears of motherhood was a central theme to the story, and I thought this was well-done as a driving force since so many experiences of motherhood were offered. It is funny how the great cosmic struggle faded in the background every now and then, but this has a lot of truth to it.
I do wonder how pacing impacts my perspective since it took me so long to read this one versus The Priory. For both, though, I feel like there could be so much more story that just gets ignored to wrap it all into a single volume.
