The Nature of the Beast by Louise Penny

3.0

As other reviews are saying, this is a departure book. I appreciate the risks Penny takes in this one, both with the story line and her beloved characters (The past of the crazy poet, Ruth! Gamache as a retiree!). The last 100 pages are riveting, but the middle seemed to meander a bit, and I started to lose patience with some of what seemed like manufactured drama among the inhabitants of Three Pines. Still, deep characters, interesting plot. Of course, I will be coming back for more!
