Snow Hunters by Paul Yoon
4.0

Snow Hunters takes place in Brazil at the end of the Korean War. The protagonist is a young prisoner of war named Yohan who has chosen to relocate to Brazil rather than re-patronizing back to North Korea. Through a special U.N. program, Yohan was to be employed as a tailor's apprentice once he reached Brazil. He would work for Japanese man, named Kiyoshi. The two would form a great bond.

The story switches back and forth between the time he spent in the prison camp and the time he spent in Brazil. Also, there are flashbacks to Yohan's childhood. Through these memories, we come to understand that he is a fairly broken man.

The writing is tight and almost poetic. This really is a great little book. In only 200 pages Yoon tells quite an emotional tale.
