The Eye by Vladimir Nabokov, Dmitri Nabokov
3.0
3.5 stars, mostly for his exceptional writing prowess. As for the story itself, very amusing, though I caught on just about the middle, which kind of conned myself out of the enjoyment of the story I think. Though, interesting themes. Ones I think about often, especially when someone - a longtime friend usually - informs me of my opinion on a subject and gets it completely wrong and I wonder what their idea of me is. I love the slipperiness of this one as I like ambiguity & absurdity in storytelling (reasons why I've been waiting to read Invitation to A Beheading for forever after one time I surreptitouly plucked it from a Russian Lit major's bookshelf while bored at a gathering and reading the jailkeeper walking into a scene twice, without missing a beat or offering explaination, like a glitch in the Matrix.) Anyway, this review got away from the point - worth the read completely.
