Blood Crown by Torri Heat, Elizabeth Brown

Did not finish book.
Life’s too short to read things that make you feel ick.

First and foremost, I got a code to listen to the audiobook version of this free for review. Second, this is firmly in the Erotica department, this is extremely high heat and has way more smut than it has plot. Third, I did not finish this book. I couldn’t.

The narrators do a great job bringing the book to life, especially Skylar Morgan, who does a fantastic job making all the male characters sound different enough that you don’t confuse who’s dialogue is who’s. If I was rating just the narration it would be a 4.5/5 stars.

Unfortunately the book just really fell short for me, I love RH books and the premise was interesting, but this has too many things in it that made me feel ick or just flat out irritated me. There are way too many “wimmin are inferior, wimmin need to know their place, wimmin can’t rule” aspects, including from within H, from more than one man. There’s also what I would consider dubious consent on more than one occasion. There is torture of the heroine (as well as women, and slaves in general), as well as alluding to sexual assault “off screen”. And after the heroine is tortured in the beginning of the book, one of the men spanks her for being captured (honestly made me so mad) and then she’s roughly taken “so she knows who she belongs to”, despite her being vehement about not being owned by anyone (inconsistent with the heroine but also just… gross considering the basis of the torture). There’s also a good amount of bullying within the harem, and lots of name calling done by the men. Two of the men are initially there to seduce and overthrow her so they can keep their slaves.
