A dark, haunting, disturbing, and twisted tale of interdimentional proportions. The cosmic horror, gore, and suspense really enraptured my attention and had me turning the pages like there's no tomorrow.
The plot of this book is brilliant, albeit I wish more was done with it. I could have honestly seen this book being made into a series from separate perspectives that could be read in any order. I got MAJOR Annihialation vibes (that movie with Natalie Portman, brilliant movie BTW, you should watch it if you haven't).
The world building in this is just phenomenal, and quite frankly, some of my favourite work. The museum sounds like somewhere I could get lost in for days on end, and quite happily so too. The other world, and all the possibilities of worlds beyond that, is where the magic is truly at, though. The idea that things can be so similar yet so vastly differential. Where reality as we know it, can be so obsolete. It's just mind-boggling and fascinating.
The characters are refreshing. I love it when they are relatable, and with them being older and troubled, I could see myself in their positions. Kara & Simon have such good chemistry. I love their conversational flow and how they both blance each other out, being support systems for one another and becoming such good friends. Uncle Earl, my man, what a great guy he is! I absolutely adore him, and I feel like we have so much in common. To be able to have the opportunity to sit with him and discuss conspiracy theories all day & night long would be a dream come true. It's just such a lovely character. The "others", the author tries to explain the unexplainable, grasping our attention just enough that we can sort of see it with out imagination while also not being able to, and this is a concept that really ignites my passion with storytelling, and what made me love this story even more.
Now, although there are times when it feels a little monotonous, I still really enjoyed this story for the most part.
This book was honestly so intriguing & interesting, and there are scenes that have stuck with me. This has cemented Kingfisher as a fast favourite of mine.
