Sunkissed
by Kasie West
After thinking about it, I decided to give this book one 1 star with a heavy heart.
Kasie West had been an important author in my reading journey, primarily because my high school days consisted of most of her books and I probably wouldn’t have loved the romance genre as much if it wasn’t for her. I remember thinking how her books were the perfect fluff books? There isn’t much substance but it gets your heart gooey anyway and personally, I don’t really care as long as it’s making me feel something. Although I think I am slowly outgrowing her books, this particular one really just reminds me of that fact.
I think Sunkissed by far is the worst book I read from her. The characters are so flat, the story is so predictable, and the romance isn’t really that swoon-worthy. I can’t think of any redeeming quality and the entire book just came across as inauthentic. I have a hard time getting into this particularly because of the narration, I can't exactly put my finger on it but something about it grinds my gears. I think the most I could get from this that was remotely positive was it’s very reminiscent of her previous books but even then, that made me think how her other books were way better than this one. The story is also easily forgettable, I pretty much forgot everything by now- but I do remember hating most of the developments. Overall, obviously not my favorite Kasie West book- but will I be looking out for her next one? Abso-fluffy-lute-ly!
PS.
I’m really hesitant to review this book and thought of just disregarding the review altogether, but I promised an RTC and I’m clearing my RTCs so here we are. I actually did change my ratings for this many times, number 1 because I hate hating books and my ratings dropping- I mean, who loves reading bad books anyway? and 2, I just wanted a fresh trip to memory lane but I think yeah, this is a fresh reminder I’m a bitter coffee-deficit college student now.
