Eleanor & Park
by Rainbow Rowell
Oh my gosh. There are so so so so many things I want to say about this book. First of all, it is probably one of the cutest love stories I have ever read, and Rainbow Rowell definitely knows how to make you reminisce about your first love. I also loved how she kind of reversed the gender roles that you usually see in love stories like this. Eleanor came in with her walls up, wearing "boy clothes" as Park's mom likes to put it in the book, and Park is a lot more sensitive and touchy-feely; in other books like this you usually see just the opposite in these characters (at least I do), and it was a nice change. I also loved the insecurities you see between them. They're not perfect characters at all and they definitely have flaws, and in high school, NO ONE is perfect. Eleanor definitely has bigger problems than "normal teenagers" have, but that is exactly what gives this book its depth. The only one tiny, tiny little thing is the fact that towards the end of the book they seemed kind of needy towards each other and couldn't spend one second away together, but then again, high school loves are exactly like that, so I won't hold it against Rowell. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a lighthearted, cute read that definitely makes you think at times.
