This was such a cute and fun read! It admittedly took me about two chapters to get into it because Leo was too much of a — to quote the graphic novel — “gay fuckboy” for my tastes. Once I got over that and could see where the story was going I started to fully enjoy it.

I was first drawn to this because I thought the cover art was gorgeous and the art within did not disappoint! All the characters have great designs and are so stylish. I’m jealous of every outfit Vega owns. Even though I’ve never watched the anime, the art style reminded me a little of Panty and Stocking.

The plot itself was a fun ride. I found myself looking forward to each new date since it was cute seeing Leo stress about it being perfect only to completely ruin it with her awkward self. The formula never got old. I think my favorite disastrous date ending was the arcade one. I facepalmed so hard. I couldn’t believe Leo did that!

Another reason why I enjoyed the date scenes is because it made Leo seem more human. At the beginning she is rude to pretty much everyone and isn’t open to connecting with others. As she goes on these dates though it becomes obvious that some of her rudeness is a product of her awkwardness. That didn’t excuse her actions, but it made me understand her a bit more. Her character growth was done well.

Vega was cool too. She’s so mysterious that the reader doesn’t learn much about her until the end. I didn’t mind that. Her mysteriousness added to her charm. I liked how mature she was. She balanced out Leo really well.

Leo and Vega had such good chemistry. I loved how Vega didn’t take any of Leo’s crap and called them out whenever they screwed up. I also loved how down bad Leo was for Vega to the point that they learned how to chill out. There were so many cute moments between them during their dates. One of my favorite moments is during their first date when they go clothing shopping because watching them try on clothes together made it obvious how comfortable they were around each other.

I will say that the climatic love confession scene was a little silly to me —
why does everything have to have a reencounter plotline nowadays?
— but the entire graphic novel was silly so it can get away with it.

I’m glad I finally read this after owning it for so many years! It made me laugh so much and every time I put it down I wanted to go back to it. I wish we got another volume of Vega and Leo so I could see them go on that indefinitely long roadtrip together!
