The Moment by Douglas Kennedy

Highly conflicted about this book - would have been happier with three and a half stars...

The plot is sufficient to keep you turning pages. I think I also liked it much more for being set in Berlin, a city I love.

It is, however, beset by lapses into cheese and cliche. And the author is so anxious to say something profound, that he insists on saying it repeatedly (the final page or so is an exercise in telling you what you should take from the novel).

So - a curate's egg of a book. Enjoy what it is, but be prepared to be irritated from time to time :)
