The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

adventurous funny mysterious tense medium-paced

4.0

A speculative fiction/fantasy novel that takes place in the SWANA region (plus India and China) around the 18th century and is rooted in its mythology.

I wanted to read more fiction/fantasy books that centered non-white ppl this year and am glad I picked this one up. The world, politics, magic systems, and characters are all complex and extremely compelling. The pacing is slightly choppy and slow at the beginning but It’s the first in a trilogy which, after what occurred in the latter half of the book, seems like it’s going to be really intriguing as a whole. All of the books have been released so i’m hoping to read the second one soon.
