A strange short story which is perhaps more interesting now than it was in 1974 when was written. It’s the story of a young woman who inadvertently befriends a criminal and who is then hounded by the police and brought down by the tabloid press. This isn’t a spoiler as the novel sets out all its own spoilers in the first few pages.
The story is told in a somewhat old fashioned English (at least translation I read). Many long prolix sentences. What plot there is is pacy enough. But just doesn’t quite stand up as modern literature. Feels a bit dated now.
